Desserts have always been my biggest downfall when striving for a healthy lifestyle. I eat lots of fruits and veggies, resist fried foods, and limit snacks, but when it comes to dessert, I just can’t say no. So, instead of getting rid of sweets altogether, I decided I would find healthier options for when I just needed to satisfy my sweet tooth. This led me to one of my favorite recipes: healthy brownies. This recipe is gives you the tools to make sweet, fudgy brownies that are filled with substantially healthier ingredients.
Ingredients:
½ cup avocado (about 1 small avocado)
2 eggs
1 banana
1 cup all-natural honey
1 teaspoon vanilla
⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
½ cup whole wheat flour
¼ teaspoon baking powder
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Grease a square (8x8) pan
In a large bowl, combine avocado and banana. Mix until creamy. Next, add eggs, honey, and vanilla. Blend until smooth.
In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder. Whisk until combined.
Pour the dry ingredients into the avocado and banana mixture and stir on low speed until mixture is smooth.
Pour brownie mixture into pan and bake for about 25 minutes.
Tip: These brownies are extra fudgy, so checking to see if they are cooked is best done by inserting a toothpick in the center of the brownie mix and checking that it comes out clean.
